Setting up usb printer on D-Link dsl 2750u....

Just wanted to share a piece of information on how to set up your existing D link dsl 2750u router. Although advertised on Dlink site to offer print server support, many of you might not find it out of the box as i didn't when i bought and first set it up. You might require a firmware upgrade and then you are good to go....just follow these steps..
1. Plug in your printer's usb port to router's usb port. Ensure the usb LED lights up.
2. Go to your router's page (default is 192.168.1.1) and enter your login credentials (default is user/pass=admin/admin).
3. Go to advanced setup and print server. Enable on board print server and enter the name and make of your printer (eg HP and HP). Click save and apply.
4. now go to start menu then devices and printers and add printer. Choose add a network, wireless or Bluetooth printer. On the next screen select the printer i want isn't listed.
5. Now click select a shared printer by name and enter your printer's network path i.e. http://192.168.1.1:631/printers/HP and hit next. Next choose your printer's driver and voila! Your printer has been added..print a test page....

Try these steps and let me know in comments how it goes for you....

    Sorry, after firmware-update from v1.00 to v1.01 I cant find anymore the point "print server"

    They removed it !

    And the downgrade back to v1.00 is not allowed :-(

      I had the same problem. You need to go to Advanced > Network Tools > Printer

    HP6500A successfully installed.
    Very important to select the LAN setup to have a secondary IP address to the router's normal access IP. My router IP is 10.0.0.2
    The ip selected must also be in the valid allowed range for private networks,
    10.0.0.0 - 10.255.255.255
    172.16.0.0 - 172.31.255.255
    192.168.0.0 - 192.168.255.255
    refer to http://support.microsoft.com/kb/142863 and other websites. Some are reserved for network comms.

    I chose 192.168.0.254 subnet 255.255.255.0
    Then the printer address I had to use was http://192.168.0.254:631/printers/HP6400

    The :631 port desigation suffix is important

    Hey!

    I know I'm a little late to the party but I tried to configure my Canon LBP2900 with this and it just won't work.. I'm able to add the printer but when I try to actually print, the software says that the print server isn't working..

    Pls help!

    Also, can we hack the modem router via telnet to make this work with Airprint as well?

      Hi akhil, retry these steps..it must work.
      regarding AirPrint, what i use is Airprint activator (Free) install it on PC to which attached is the Printer,,or paid alternatives are there like FingerPrint (for Mac & PC) and HandyPrint, Printopia (for Mac Only)..

    I have been able to add my printer Samsung ML-1640 through router's print server on Window PC's. But am unable to add it correctly/ print from my Mac Book on connected to the network. What is the queue name I should enter while adding the printer through IP on my Mac? Also, what protocol should be selected?

    I have added printer to my Window PC's through IP - http://192.168.1.1:631/printers/SamsungML1640. As Colin stated above, should I use any other IP instead of 192.168.1.1 which is similar to my router's IP too?

      After several unsuccessful attempts, finally bought a TP LINK print server for around 1.5 k from eBay. It worked flawlessly. AirPrint too works if u install handy print on your mac and keep you mac on while doing AirPrint from ios device.

    Thanks Mann for replying. The printer works fine with Mac when connected through its USB. But on giving print command while connected through network, the printer gets paused.

    Have updated my Mac drivers, tried resetting the printing system & also tried adding the printer through all the three available protocols i.e, LPD, IPP & HP JetDirect.

    Any idea what should be the queue name when adding the printer in Mac through its IP?

    Had an hour discussion with Apple Support, but no luck.

    Pls do update if any success.

    for someone who still cant make it works - dont forget to check Internet port settings in printer properties!!!
    My HP1020 printer didnt print until I entered the port configuration and typed the login and password to access the router :)

      I have similar problem, HP P1007 does not support by the DSL-2750U.

      I have requested D-Link to work on this and include P1007 on the next firmware release. However, no response from them. May be everyone should raise this issue/ request via helpdesk@dlink.co.in (just to prioritize....)

    But had a bit of an issue cos i forgot to put 'Black cartridge only' in my printer proterties > settings tab since i've run out of color cartridge :D
    So if anyone else getting blank pages, better check that :D

    Hi, thanks for this post. It worked for one of my laptop and is not working for my 2nd laptop. The only difference is that the laptop from which this is not working is having a 64bit OS Win7. It works from a 32bit Win7. I also tried entering the username/ pass for accessing my router in "configure ports" settings. That didnt work either. Any help?

      There might be problem with drivers. Install the latest 64bit drivers then retry.
